The Lord appears as three men. Abraham runs to meet them, bows, and shows great hospitality—bringing water, bread, a calf, curds, and milk. The Lord promises that Sarah will have a son. Sarah, listening at the tent door, laughs. The Lord asks why she laughed and reaffirms the promise. The men set out toward Sodom. Abraham stands before the Lord and intercedes for the city, asking if He will spare it for the sake of the righteous—beginning with fifty and going down to ten.
